Terrible design". I never knew this incredibly maddening design was going to be an issue when I bought the car. At least once a year I have to change a bulb in the front that requires one and one half hours labor to change a bulb. Absolutely ridiculous no wonder why GM has such poor quality". This was due to the way the car was manufactured. I had the dealer change both lights since I figured the other one would go out soon. I forgot exactly how much it cost, but it was pretty pricey.
I wrote to GM to try and get compensation, but they very politely turned me down. Good question to ask when buying a car: how do you change the headlights? The entire front bumper had to be removed. Have to use key. Trunk won't open. I had to open manually with interior trunk release". Also sometimes the door does not unlock when the car is put in park".
It was very confusing. No real mechanical issues Just defect in system itself". The "Check Airbag" light comes on intermittantly, but usually corrects itself". Antilock system ABS , parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.
Just one side". Hard to complain! Squeaking evidently is a built-in alert mechanism, like wear bars on a tire tread. Replace pads and rotors. Rust visible on remainder of disc. I have driven GM cars most of my life. I have never liked the brake life I get with them". I don't get any life out of the rotors that GM uses. I get a pulsating when the brake is applied at speeds above 50 mph.
It gets tiresome replacing rotors or having them turned. Maybe the cause is most of the miles are city driving. Or, the pads are to small or the rotors too thin. The heat build up kills the rotors. Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage includes rack and pinion , power steering pumps and hoses, leaks , wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.
Too expensive to repair and not covered by warantee". On very cold days the pump makes a very loud whining noise. It got so bad the Chevy replaced it for us under Goodwill since we were out of warranty on time". The electronic control system died and after Internet research I found it to be defective on various GM products and no recalls issued. I had the unit replaced under extended warranty after bring up the issue with other 4cyl GM products.
Eventually a mechanic found that the busing of the torsion bar was bad, replaced it and now it's a much more enjoyable car". I assumed that springs should "spring"". Next it worked right for a couple of days then start all over again two days later. GM is aware of this problem and also of the failure of the power steering motor and is covering these repairs as a quiet warranty repair up to ten years or , miles and has mailed letters to owners so stating.
Only problem with this is that when the power steering fails it can be sudden and without warning which makes it excruciatingly difficult to control the car at low speeds. My wife, the primary driver of the car, had a near miss because of this. This is a fine car with minor defects: 1. Front bumper set too low to ground; 2. The same problem appeared again in March and was repaired by the dealer". Had already replaced spark plugs and ignition coils. Fuel injector wiring harness had to be replaced, wires to injector 1 were weak from heating. Onboard diagnostics indicated throttle body issue and mechanic replaced entire assembly. At km rear brakes had to be replaced at my expense.
A year later both front and rear brakes were replaced. At km I was having a problem starting the - it always started but shuddered and sputtered when it started. Although my Malibu was E85, I thought that ethenol in the gas was the culprit. Along with buying ethenol free gas, I also had the dealer reset the computer.
At my expense of cou". Need I say More". This was caused by a faulty connection in the connector to the MAF sensor. It set off the check engine light. It was replaced and the problem went away. Bluetooth , voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface e. They may come on or they may not".
Gets worse in hot conditions". Seems to be affected by hotter days. Had to be replaced. Dealership replaced it. Under Warranty". The speaker was replaced under warrenty, but the problem reappeared. Leak is somewhere up above the driver's side door and also somewhere in the dash where it runs down and drips on feet.
May be related to the sudden, unexplained loss of power steering". Am told it is the drain from the moonroof clogging up. The dealer cleared them out and the problem disappeared. However, due to the clogs the water backup somehow caused a fault in the computer causing it to indicate a driving condition that reduced engine power by half. It was determined the water had infiltrated a connector to the computer.
I've not been able to determine where most are coming from". Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.
It's 10 years old, and this was the only major repair we had. The timing chain had to be replaced. They did repair it, but it has not been the same since. Paint fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling , loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust. It scraped on minor road dips for years". It's either buy a new bumper at the body shop or hold it together with duct tape.
Bad engineering, or poor design of the curb bumps By the driver rear wheel well are a couple of paint spots that are bubbling, which means rust is eating it from behind". The chrome peeled off probably because of salted roads this winter and past winters".
Had it painted by dealer. Was told in advance the fix wouldn't last It didn't. Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, leaks. From what I have heard, this is a very common prob Me on this engine. Exhaust leaks in to the car when the heat an AC run. This is a common problem that is known in the trade and that GM has been aware of for years.
Too many issues with this car. This problem is caused by a wiring connector under the driver's seat. Some bloggers have referred to the connector as being cheap and inferior. I agree completely! Disconnect the connector, clean the contacts, reassemble and you should be good for awhile. An optional horsepower 3. Instrument cluster looks aesthetically pleasing. Engine doesn't burn any oil. Never had to add any oil between changes. Dislikes: Replacing headlights means taking the front bumper off and covers under the hood. Cheap plastic wheel covers. Malfunctioning rear window defrost that sometimes works. Malfunctioning turn signal cancel. Inadequate power for stop and go city driving.
Malfunctioning factory radio replaced it. Bumpers have a very thin coating on them that peels away. Either doesn't come with a clear coat or is just a really thin one that scratches very easily. The traction control on this car is a mystery. Even with the little power that it has, the FWD still manages to cause front tires to spin occasionally and I have no idea why.
Malibui I love my car in some ways I just hate how low it sits but I love my Bluetooth and auto start a rest handling it's over all a good car really. I keep it serviced.. Best buy Best vehicle I have ever owned. Drives great, rides great and all that have driven it want it. Except several years of service from this wonderful car. When you walk around it and sit in it the obvious conclusion is how precise this vehicle was built by GM.
