The DoubleTwist internet site was not functional at press time. DoubleTwist's scientists, it appears, are in better shape. The software developers "will be employed before me," Williamson predicted. Williamson, who took over running the company from John Couch in January, said he was essentially put at the helm of a sinking ship.
But it was too little too late. The company had ramped up to people, it purchased a lot of equipment. Release notes were unavailable when this listing was updated. Try our new feature and write a detailed review about doubleTwist. All reviews will be posted soon. Write review. Write your thoughts in our old-fashioned comment. MacUpdate Comment Policy. Joseabraham Sep 28 It doesn't work anymore. I used this on and off a year or so ago, and thought I'd check it again just to use a player to keep language-learning tracks away from my general music collection nothing worse than shuffling to one of those when on a run to break rhythm!
Pure garbage. And an account linked with neither, but just a regular email, address returned "server not found". Fuck this for a game of soldiers.
The command-line player cmus cmus. Y-Guy Jul 12 At first I thought my iTunes music folder had been hosed, but I found the files in iTunes were just fine. After some testing I found the problem is with DT. So it's now been removed. Replaced with Export for iTunes. Well, it's not a good sign that the app hasn't been updated in four years. Still worse, it turns out that it will create dupes in its library.
It will also scan your whole hard drive if you aren't quick about excluding specific directories. I can't see any way to turn off automatic scanning of iPhoto, movies, podcasts, or other things I want doubleTwist to leave alone.
The Mac version of their desktop app badly needs work. I then went to preferences and excluded folders and the external hard-drive from future indexing, just keeping the music files I wanted. It then told me that those files already scanned would need to be manually removed. I started on my external hard-drive, removing them from doubleTwist and noticed something odd. Bluetooth - I'll call this one "limited functionality. You have to pick the phone up and manage it from there. Bluetooth works fine for Pandora, Spotify, etc. This is nearly full featured. You can navigate everything from the MMI and it will display album artwork. Limitations: The MMI will not display the "album flip book" thing and you cannot use voice control. I find myself using this one mostly since it lets me keep all of my music in ONE place.
I don't have to copy it to SD cards or the Jukebox and keep everything in sync. The album flip book and voice control are cool but not that big of a deal. SD Cards - These get around the song limit of the Jukebox. They do display album artwork but again, no "album flip book" and no voice control.
The interface of the software itself is clean and easy to understand, especially if you have ever used iTunes before. After you sign in with a doubleTwist account which you can create from the software itself if you don't have one , the left-hand column allows you to choose between a variety of options.
There's a list of purchases you have made through doubleTwist, as well as any devices you currently have connected. Because the software lets you access your music and photos from iTunes, it's clear that doubleTwist is aimed at being an iTunes replacement and not just a supplement.
Though it doesn't appear to recognize the iPhone on the Mac that's the device I have plugged in that it can't seem to identify correctly , doubleTwist does support a number of BlackBerrys, the Palm Pre, the PSP, some Android phones, and "hundreds" of other devices. To be fair, the software does recognize the iPhone under Windows, but only firmware 2. For the users of those devices, this could be a true blessing, since iTunes won't sync with any of those by default cat-and-mouse between Apple and Palm notwithstanding.
When browsing our music library brought in from iTunes, we noticed that there are no playlists imported along with it. You can easily navigate through a list of artists or a giant list of songs, but if you are married to your previously-created playlists, this is a major downside.
Update : DVD Jon contacted Ars and said that the software does support playlists, so perhaps it was a bug that we ran into on our side.
